In line with the vision and mission of Balıkesir Üniversitesi, our department has adopted as its primary goal the education of individuals who are committed to universal scientific principles, possess a strong sense of social responsibility, are innovative and entrepreneurial, and are sensitive to ethical values. Within the framework of our university's institutional approach—producing knowledge, transforming it into societal benefit, and contributing to sustainable development—our department conducts its education, research and development, and community service activities through a holistic, participatory, and quality-oriented perspective. This approach encompasses not only academic achievement but also the cultivation of socially aware individuals who uphold ethical responsibility and embrace lifelong learning.
Our educational philosophy is shaped by the science- and reason-based approach inspired by the words of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk: “The truest guide in life is science.” Accordingly, our programs are structured around contemporary, inquiry-based, and analytical thinking. We aim not only to provide students with professional knowledge but also to equip them with competencies in research, critical evaluation, innovation, and ethical decision-making. Course contents are regularly updated in accordance with national and international academic standards and are revised in line with the evolving needs of industry and society.
In our educational processes, theory and practice are integrated. Through project-based learning, laboratory and workshop activities, technical visits, field applications, and industry collaborations, our students’ professional experience is strengthened. Furthermore, contemporary concepts such as digital transformation, sustainability, environmental awareness, and innovation are integrated into our curriculum to ensure that our graduates possess the competencies required to compete on a global scale. Interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged, creating a holistic learning environment where knowledge and skills from different fields are integrated.
Within this framework, our department has a strong academic and technical infrastructure in the fields of Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), robotic systems, and artificial intelligence. Our students receive hands-on training in three-dimensional modeling, assembly design, technical drawing, and digital prototyping, and they are able to perform performance evaluations by analyzing their designs in virtual environments. In the field of computer-aided manufacturing, practical studies are conducted on CNC programming, production planning, and digital manufacturing technologies, adopting an integrated engineering approach from design to production.
In computer-aided analysis, structural analysis, finite element methods, fluid mechanics analyses, and optimization studies are carried out. Thus, our students gain the competence to evaluate not only the visual and geometric aspects of design but also performance, durability, and safety criteria. Within robotic and automation systems, education is provided in industrial robot programming, sensor technologies, control systems, and smart manufacturing applications, equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to adapt to Industry 4.0 processes.
Artificial intelligence applications are addressed within the framework of data analysis, machine learning, and intelligent decision support systems, developing innovative approaches to solving engineering problems. Projects are conducted particularly in areas such as productivity enhancement in manufacturing processes, predictive maintenance, and quality control systems, reinforcing theoretical knowledge through practical applications. In this context, our students graduate with the digital competencies required by today’s industry.
Within our student-centered approach, a strong academic advising system is implemented, and students’ academic development is regularly monitored. Guidance is provided regarding career planning, internships, and research opportunities, while industry collaborations support students in gaining practical experience. Through our quality assurance system, educational processes are continuously improved and updated in line with feedback received.
The academic vision of our department is to become a nationally and internationally recognized academic unit with high scientific productivity and research outputs that shape the field. Scientific projects, publications, and academic activities carried out by our faculty members support knowledge production, and research outcomes are shared with industry and public institutions. In particular, studies conducted in digital engineering, intelligent systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies aim to contribute to our country’s technological advancement.
In conclusion, our department operates with a student-centered and research-oriented educational approach that is guided by scientific thinking and committed to Atatürk’s principles and reforms. In alignment with the strategic objectives of the Faculty of Engineering at Balıkesir Üniversitesi, our department remains committed to contributing to the scientific, social, and economic development of our country by educating innovative and responsible individuals equipped with the competencies required by digital transformation.
